TIGER Bytes
The LSU Office of Computing Services (OCS) located in the Frey Building provides disk space to all students. This disk space is called TigerBytes. A user can access the user's Tiger Bytes file storage from the PAWS desktop by selecting Tiger Bytes under Student Services. Depending on the student's college, the student user will at least 100MB or more of disk space. In the CADGIS Lab, the H: drive is pointed to this disk space. Whenever a user logs into a CADGIS computer, the H: drive should appear with the contents of the user's Tiger Bytes file space.
The CADGIS Lab is able to offer every user 200MB of permanent disk space. This space is accessible through any computer that can see the LSU domain on the network. Each user should have a folder located under \\lsu.edu\cadgis\users. Each user should have a folder with the same name as the username. A user can write up to 200MB of files to this folder. When a user logs onto a computer in the CADGIS Lab, the "My Documents" of that computer will point to the user's folder. Also, the Z: drive will point to this folder. Accessing CADGIS Disk Space from outside CADGIS When a user logs onto a computer outside of the CADGIS Lab, it is still possible to access the user's \\lsu.edu\cadgis\users folder. Regardless of whether connected via wireless connection, cable to an on-campus wall outlet, or VPN, as long as a user's computer can see the LSU domain under Network Neighborhood, a user will be able to connect the user's CADGIS folder. For users on the LSU campus: For users outside LSU campus: You will need to first connect to the LSU network via a Virtual Private Network (VPN) client. Download the VPN client here and install. Instructions are provided in the pdf document. The VPN client is self configured on install. For Windows users, in the address field of a Windows Explorer window, the user should type \\lsu.edu\cadgis\users\PAWSID. If, at some point of the process, the user is asked for a username and password, the user should type lsu\PAWSID
CD/DVD Burners Floppy and Zip disk drives are no longer available in the CADGIS Lab. Any section of any Art, Design, Geography, or Anthropology course can place files under the classinfo folder "\\lsu.edu\cadgis\classinfo" so that students can access the information. Instructors can place files under \\lsu.edu\cadgis\classinfo in folders named with the course id. Students can read or copy files from these folders to their storage. Instructors can use folders under the class homework folder as a collection point for homework. Students can copy homework assignments into \\lsu.edu\cadgis\homework in folders named the course id. Users of the workstations within CADGIS are allowed to write files to the C:\temp directory located on each machine. However, this space is STRICTLY TEMPORARY. There is no guarantee that these files will remain on the machine after the user logs out. |
